Chapter 15

On board the ship, Calin ran down the hall and yelled over his shoulder at the crew, “Go over those sensor logs, try to narrow down where we’re going.” Rushing into the cockpit, he threw himself into his seat, “Allia, did you keep the engines warm?”

“Yes, Captain. We are ready to fly.”

He yanked back on the stick and shoved the throttles forward, “Then let’s get the hell out of here.”

The Sea Rover rose off the landing pad, rotated toward the large hangar door and blasted out of the canyon at high speed. Calin aimed the ship toward orbit and said, “Allia, take over and get us to Jupiter at top speed. I want to see what they’ve found in those sensor logs.”

Calin walked into the galley where the crew was huddled over the sensor data they had pulled from the Titan base.

“I was able to narrow down their vector, and the only object within a reasonable distance along that path is this small moon of Jupiter, Thebe, orbiting inside the asteroid belt,” Mouse was saying as he traced a path along the holo-projector above the table.

“Shouldn’t we give this information to Nilos?” asked Shona. “This is some vital intel, and we’ll need the PPD’s help.”

“Yes, it is,” agreed Calin. “But somehow Nicia knew we would be on Titan, so I am beginning to think Nilos was right about having a mole on his team. And until we know who, we need to keep this to ourselves.”

“Captain, you wished to be informed when we were getting close?” asked Allia over the speakers.

“Thank you, Allia, I’ll be right up.” He answered. “Dean, we will need the stealth mesh as perfect as you can get it. I really don’t want to get into a firefight with two battleships, all by our lonesome.”

“Got it, boss. They won’t see us coming.” Dean replied as he left the table and headed to his Engineering station.

Calin and Shona both headed up to the cockpit and buckled in. Calin was unsure of what their next move should be. Out here in the middle of deep space they were on their own.

“Stealth mesh activated.” Dean announced from behind them.

“Allia, slow us down to quarter speed and plot a course to the moon Thebe, and keep as many asteroids between us and them as possible,” Calin ordered as they strapped into their seats.

“Roger, Captain.”

Shona studied the sensors readings and tried to pinpoint any anomalies in the asteroid field. After several minutes she called out “Allia, alter course by 12 degrees starboard, I think I see something.”

“I’ve got it,” Calin said as he took over piloting the ship. He banked to the left and skimmed the surface of a large asteroid until they crested the horizon. And what they saw made Calin bring the Sea Rover to a complete stop.

“Dean, you sure that stealth field is 100%?”

“Um… why? What did you find?” asked Dean as he turned around from his station.

Calin pointed out the window, “That.”
